Current Legislation (2023 - 2024)
AB 796
Regulation for Athletic Trainers
Introduced by:
Assemblymember Dr. Akilah Weber (District 79)
AB 796 Updates
AB 796 Updates
March 2024
Result: Passed CA Assembly
Currently in - Senate Business & Professions Committee. Awaiting a hearing date.
Currently, this bill is written as a hybrid bill, having a mix of registration and licensure language. Unfortunately, we don’t know what the final language will look like, because as we move through the senate committees the language may change. As we make our way through the necessary steps to pass this legislation there is a chance that it will look more like a registration bill. But all of this aside, the CATA continues to work with legislators and regulators to find the best available language in this bill to protect the public and establish solid regulatory standards for Athletic Trainers in California.
We are excited to continue working with Dr. Weber’s office as she is a strong and enthusiastic supporter of the overall goal of obtaining regulation for Athletic Trainers in the state of California. Stay confident that the CATA will not settle for anything less than the best possible version of a regulatory bill that will best represent California Athletic Trainers and protect the public moving forward.
