CATA Awards

The CATA Managing Board would like to honor the outstanding work done in our state by individuals deserving of being recognized by the CATA.

See below for info on how to nominate an individual for the current recognition awards presented by CATA and the requirements for those awards.

Award Criteria & Nomination Requirements

  • Life Saver Award

    The purpose of the Lifesaver award is to recognize a Certified Athletic Trainer or Athletic Training Student whose actions in an emergency situation played a critical role in saving a person’s life or through excellent medical care prevented a serious injury / sudden illness from becoming fatal or more disabling than the actual outcome.

    Requirements

    - Nomination may come from any individual

    - Name of the individual(s) being nominated

    - Nominee must be a Certified Athletic Trainer or Athletic Training Student who participated in a life saving event

    - Letter of Recommendation that demonstrates and speaks to the contributions that benefited the patient 

    - Description of events OR supporting documents (Newspaper article, written story, etc)

  • State Recognition Award

    The purpose of the State Recognition award is to recognize a non-athletic trainer or non-member (i.e. physician, educator, mentor, supporter, etc.), who has and/or is making a significant contribution of their time and energy to the state-wide membership of the CATA. To be eligible for nomination a non-member’s contribution should encompass betterment of the profession of Athletic Training throughout the state of California.

    Requirements

    - Nomination must come from an NATA member in good standing

    - Name of the individual being nominated

    - Letter of Recommendation that demonstrates and speaks to the contributions of the nominee that benefited the profession of Athletic Training in California

  • Special Service Award

    The Special Service award recognizes a Certified Athletic Trainer, who has and/or is making a significant contribution of their time and energy to the betterment of the profession of Athletic Training within the nominee’s local area or CATA region of California and/or the state-wide membership of the CATA.

    Requirements

    - Nomination of an individual must come from a NATA member in good standing

    - Name of the individual being nominated

    - Nominee must be a NATA member in good standing

    - Letter of Recommendation that demonstrates and speaks to the contribution of the nominee that benefited the membership

  • Dr. Daniel Arnheim Scholar of the Year Award

    The Dr. Daniel Arnheim Scholar of the Year Award recognizes athletic training educators, preceptors, scholars and/or individuals who have demonstrated and exhibited a noteworthy level of commitment to athletic training education, athletic training students, research publications, and/or professional speaking engagements.

    Criteria:

    - Publication in an athletic training/sports medicine peer reviewed journal, text, website

    - Present at an athletic training/sports medicine forum, symposium or similar event

    - Demonstrate extraordinary leadership when confronted with a challenging circumstances within their academic program

    - Serve as a preceptor/clinical mentor to athletic trainers/athletic training students

    - Teach athletic training or related topic in the High School, Community College, or CAATE Accredited ATEP program

    Requirements:

    - Nomination of the individual must come from a NATA member in good standing

    - Name of the individual being nominated

    - Nominee must be a NATA member in good standing

    - Letter of Recommendation that demonstrates and speaks to the contributions or achievements of the nominee

  • Athletic Trainer of the Year: Excellence in Patient Care

    The Athletic Trainer of the Year: Excellence in Patient Care Award recognizes athletic trainers who excel in patient care and goes above and beyond in the care of their patients.

    Requirements:

    - Nomination may come from any individual

    - Name of the individual being nominated

    - Nominee must be a NATA member in good standing

    - Letter of Recommendation that focuses on the strengths of the nominee in relation to care and services the nominee provides to their patients.
