Sarah Elizabeth (Merkel) Goble

Biography:

Sarah (Merkel) Goble is in her first year as Sonoma Academy’s full-time Athletic Trainer. Sarah works with all of Sonoma Academy’s athletic teams and student-athletes and looks forward to building out Sonoma Academy's Sports Medicine Program.

Before joining Sonoma Academy, Sarah was the athletic trainer at Justin-Siena High School (Napa, CA) for 12 years. She was the first athletic trainer at Justin-Siena and was on the sidelines for several NCS and league championships. During her time as the school's athletic trainer, Justin-Siena was recognized as a NATA Safe Sports School every year since 2013. Sarah also taught the "Introduction to Sports Medicine" class on campus.

Well respected by her peers and colleagues she previously served as the Chair for the Secondary School Committee for the California Athletic Trainers Association from 2020 - 2024. She worked within her committee and the CATA to support secondary school athletic trainers by helping to host the Korey Stringer Institute’s Team Up For Sports Safety events in California. An advocate for every secondary school athlete having an athletic trainer, Sarah focused her efforts in supporting all legislative efforts for athletic trainers in CA. 

Sarah was the recipient of the CATA Special Service Award in 2024. Sarah was an athlete herself, winning a Women's Basketball Division III National Championship in 2007 at DePauw University in Indiana. She was inducted with her teammates into DePauw Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017. 

Sarah has a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology - Athletic Training from DePauw, a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology - Athletic Training from San Jose State and is a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer (2009), and ImPACT Trained Athletic Trainer (ITAT).

Born in Evansville, IN Sarah Goble now resides in Windsor with her husband Jared, and their two children. As a family they love being active on the weekends whether its bike rides to the farmers market, trips to the pool, or a day wine tasting. Sarah also is an avid reader (or listener), and will always have a list of book recommendations on the ready!
